NDDB launched e-GOPALA app for dairy farmers to know real-time info
  • The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) launched an online platform for dairy farmers on Saturday that will provide real-time information on farm animals, nutrition, and breed advancement.
  • On Saturday, Parshottam Rupala, Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, visited the NDDB campus in Anand to launch the web version of the e-GOPALA App and the IMAP web portal in the presence of Meenesh Shah, Chairman of the NDDB.
  • The e-GOPALA platform assists farmers in managing their livestock, including the purchase and sale of disease-free germplasm in all forms (semen, embryos, etc.).
  • The IMAP web portal is intended for the geographical presentation of project coverage, which includes the Information Network For Animal Productivity and Health (INAPH), which displays state- and district-level animal registration coverage in relation to the animal population.
Centre approved MSP procurement of moong and urad dal in Karnataka

Karnataka will soon begin public procurement of early Kharif season pulses such as moong (green gramm) and urad (black gramm) at the minimum support price (MSP). 
  • This week, the Centre approved the purchase of 30,000 tonnes of moong and 10,000 tonnes of urad of fair average quality at MSP.
  • The Centre has designated the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) as the nodal procurement agency, with the Karnataka State Co-operative Marketing Federation serving as the state agency for the process.
  • The MSP for moong daal has been set at ₹ 6,300 by the Centre.
Karnataka to establish Spice Park in Malenadu district of Chikkamagaluru
  • The Karnataka government has decided to establish a spice park inside the Malenadu district of Chikkamagaluru.
  • According to Industries Minister Murugesh R Nirani, the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) will set up the facility on a 10-acre land as soon as possible.
Tamil Nadu government presents State's first agriculture Budget
  • During 2021-2022, Rs.34,220.6499 crore is provided in their respective demands for Agriculture Department and agriculture related departments like animal husbandry, fisheries, dairy development, irrigation, rural development, revenue, cooperation, sericulture and forest departments
  • The agriculture budget was presented today (August 14) which marks the 100th day of the DMK government.
  • A new scheme for organic farming will be implemented and a separate department will be created for organic farming. 

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh released “IndiGau’, India’s first Cattle Genomic Chip

This is India’s first Cattle Genomic Chip for the conservation of pure varieties of indigenous cattle breeds like, Gir, Kankrej, Sahiwal, Ongole etc.

  • This indigenous chip was developed by the concerted efforts of scientists of National Institute of Animal Biotechnology (NAIB), Hyderabad, an autonomous institution under the aegis of the Department of Biotechnology.

About Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP)

Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) is an annual exercise carried out by Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR) in all Gram panchayats and other local self-governance bodies in all states and UTs from October to December months, where the GP development plans are prepared in a participatory manner under the people’s Plan Campaign.

Under Deendayal Antodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission’s (DAY-NRLM) Panchayati Raj Institutions-Community Based Organisations (PRI-CBO) convergence initiatives, all SHGs and their federations are expected to avail benefits of local economic development programmes led by the Gram Panchayats.  

As per the joint advisory issued by Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) and Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR) in the past few years, all SHGs promote under the DAY-NRLM and their federations are mandated to prepare a Village Poverty Reduction Plans (VPRP) and present it in Gram Sabha for integration into Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP).

  • DAY-NRLM, with over 70 million women organized into SHGs and federations, provides the right opportunity and platform to ensure community participation in the preparation of Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) through the comprehensive and inclusive preparation and integration of Village Poverty Reduction Plans (VPRP).

Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar inaugurated the world's second-largest refurbished state-of-the-art National Gene Bank at the National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (NBPGR), Pusa, New Delhi

  • The National Gene Bank established in the year 1996 to preserve the seeds of Plant Genetic Resources (PGR) for future generations, has the capacity to preserve about one million germplasm in the form of seeds.
  • National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources is meeting the need of in-situ and ex-situ germplasm conservation through Delhi Headquarters and 10 regional stations in the country.

Cabinet approves implementation of National Mission on Edible Oils – Oil Palm

The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given its approval to launch a new Mission on Oil palm to be known as the National Mission on Edible Oils – Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) as a new Centrally Sponsored Scheme with a special focus on the North east region and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands

  • The proposed scheme will subsume the current National Food Security Mission-Oil Palm programme.

Financial Outlay: A financial outlay of Rs.11,040 crore has been made for the scheme, out of which Rs.8,844 crore is the Government of India share and Rs.2,196 crore is State share and this includes the viability gap funding also.

Targets Under the Scheme:

  • Under this scheme, it is proposed to cover an additional area  of 6.5 lakh hectare (ha.) for oil palm till the year 2025-26 and thereby reaching the target of 10 lakh hectares ultimately. 
  • The production of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) is expected to go upto 11.20 lakh tonnes by 2025-26 and upto 28 lakh tonnes by 2029-30.

Background:

Since 1991-92, many efforts have been made by the Government of India  to increase the production of oilseeds and oil palm. The oilseeds production has increased from 275 lakh tons in 2014-15 to 365.65 lakh tons in 2020-21. 

  • At present only 3.70 lakh hectares is under Oil Palm cultivation. Oil palm produces 10 to 46 times more oil per hectare compared to other oilseed crops and has yield of around 4 tons oil per ha

Silent Features:

  • There is a sunset clause for the scheme which is 1st November 2037.  
  • To give impetus to the North-East and Andaman, the Government will additional bear a cost of 2% of the CPO price to ensure that the farmers are paid at par with the rest of India. 
  • A substantial increase has been made for planting material for oil palm and this has increased from Rs 12,000 per ha to  Rs.29000 per ha.
  • To address the issue of shortage of planting material in the country, seed gardens will be provided assistance up to Rs.80 lakhs for 15 ha. in Rest of India and Rs.100 lakhs  for 15 ha in North-East and Andaman regions
  • Further, assistance for seed gardens @ Rs.40 lakhs and Rs.50 lakhs for Rest of India and North-East & Andaman regions respectively.

Cabinet approves revival of North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation Limited

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by the Prime Minister has approved a revival package of Rs.77.45 crore (Rs. 17 crore towards fund based support and Rs.60.45 crore towards non-fund based support) for revival of North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation Limited (NERAMAC), a central Public Section Enterprises under the administrative control of Ministry of Development of North Eastern Regional (MDoNER).

  • After the implementation of revival of NERAMAC, employment will be generated both directly and indirectly in farming sector, projects and events management sector, logistics, sorting and grading and value addition, entrepreneurship and marketing. 
  • Direct or indirect employment for about 33,000 persons
  • NERAMAC HQ - Guwahati, Assam
