PM Modi transfers ₹19,500 cr to over 9.75 cr farmers under PM-KISAN
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday virtually transferred about ₹19,500 crore to over 9.75 crore beneficiaries farmers under the government's PM-KISAN scheme.
- With this, the government has so far transferred nine installments amounting around ₹1.57 lakh crore to farmer families under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme.
Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that before the ninth installment, the central government had disbursed about ₹1.37 lakh crore to around 11 crore beneficiaries under the scheme.
- The government has linked 2.28 crore PM-KISAN beneficiaries with Kisan Credit Card scheme, under which they have been able to avail loan up to 2.32 lakh crore so far.
TN to become second state after Andhra with separate agri budget on Aug 14
On August 14, Tamil Nadu will will become the second state after Andhra Pradesh to have a separate agricultural budget.
- The tradition of having an exclusive budget for agriculture was started by Andhra Pradesh in 2012-13, in order to give a focused approach to the sector, terming it as a policy paper on agriculture.
Article 202 of the Constitution of India enables states to issue an estimated statement of receipts and expenditure for a financial year (commonly referred to as ‘Budget’ or ‘Annual Financial Statement’).

PM Modi announces mission to make India self-sufficient in edible oils
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced a National Edible Oil Mission-Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) to make India self-sufficient in cooking oils, including palm oil, as he stressed on reducing the dependence on imports.
- Addressing a virtual event on PM-Kisan scheme, he said over Rs 11,000 crore will be invested in the edible oil ecosystem.
- It is to be noted here that India is dependent on imports of edible oil to meet the domestic demand. Of the total imports, palm oil constitutes about 55 per cent.
- The Prime Minister said north-eastern states and Andaman and Nicobar Islands could be promoted for palm farming.
Govt procures record 43.33 MT wheat in 2021-22 rabi marketing season
The government has procured record 43.33 million tonne of wheat in the 2021-22 rabi marketing season, the Food Ministry said on Monday.
Wheat marketing season is from April to March, but bulk of procurement is normally done in the first 3-4 months.
- The previous record was 38.99 million tonne (MT) in the 2020-21 rabi marketing season.
About 49.15 lakh farmers have already benefitted from the current procurement operations with an MSP (minimum support price) value of Rs 85,581.39 crore
Paddy procurement has also reached at all-time high level of 86.98 million tonne, surpassing the previous high of 77.34 million tonne in kharif 2019-20.
- About 128.38 lakh farmers have already benefitted from the kharif paddy procurement with an MSP value of Rs 1,64,217.43 crore, the ministry added.
In case of pulses and oilseeds, the government through nodal agencies has procured total 10.49 lakh tonne at MSP value of Rs 5,662.82 crore so far.
- Boys enrolled in PUC or ITI courses would receive Rs 2,500, while girls will receive Rs 3,000, as per the government orders.
- Boys taking admissions in BA, B.Sc, BCom, MBBS, BE, and other professional courses would receive Rs 5,000, while girls will receive Rs 5,500.
- In addition, boys studying law, paramedical science, nursing, and other vocational studies would receive Rs 7,500, while girls will receive Rs 8,000.
- According to the ruling state government, the scholarship for males and females pursuing post-graduation will be Rs 10,000 and Rs 11,000, respectively.
- The report, conducted in 12 countries in the region under the guidance of UNEP, gives a comprehensive view of the present condition across the region, in which about 34% of the food served is completely wasted, with an estimation varying from 100 to 150kg/cap of food waste happening at the household level, similar to levels in Western Europe & North America.
- Target 12.3 calls for halving per capita global food waste at the retail and consumer level.
- Bhaskar A Sawant, Principal Secretary of Agriculture Department said this while reviewing the progress of various projects of horticulture department.
- Sawant further said the department would provide Rs. 40,000 / hectare to encourage farmers to plant orchards.
