Government announces Excise Duty reduction on Petrol and Diesel on the eve of Diwali

  • Government of India has taken a significant decision of reducing Central Excise Duty on Petrol & Diesel by Rs. 5 and Rs. 10 respectively
  • Notably, excise duty on petrol was hiked from Rs 19.98 per litre to Rs 32.9 last year to recoup gain arising from international oil prices plunging to multi-year low as pandemic gulped demand. On diesel, the duty was hiked to Rs 31.80.

Time to target 5 times increase in export of Technical Textiles from $2 billion to $10 billion in 3 years

Union Minister of Textiles, Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs and Food & Public Distribution, Shri Piyush Goyal  said time has come  to target 5 times  increase in export of Technical Textiles in 3 years,

Current world market is 250 Billion USD (18 Lakh Crore) and  India’s share  in it is USD 19 Billion. India is an aspiring player with USD 40 Billion size in this market (8% share). The biggest players are USA, Western Europe, China and Japan (20 – 40% share)

Government has launched National Technical Textiles Mission in February 2020, with a view to make India a self reliant, vibrant, export oriented economy in the world.

About National Technical Textiles Mission

  • The Government has approved the proposal for creation of National Technical Textiles Mission for a period of 4 years (2020-21 to 2023-24) with an outlay of Rs.1480 crores.

The distribution of funds is 

(i) For Research Innovation & Development – Rs. 1000 crores, 

(ii) For Promotion and Market Development- Rs.50 crore, 

(iii) For Education, Training and Skilling-  Rs. 400 crore, and 

(iv) For Export Promotion – Rs.10 crores and balance Rs.20 crores for administrative expenses.

Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Programme

  • Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP), the sub-scheme under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) programme supports the Self-Help Group (SHG) members and their family members to set-up small enterprises in the non-farm sector.
  • SVEP develops an eco-system for enterprise development in rural areas consisting of Community Enterprise Fund (CEF) for enterprise funding, Cadre of Community Resource Persons-Enterprise Promotion (CRP-EP) for providing Business Support Services which includes preparation of business plans, trainings, accessing loans from banks etc. and dedicated centre at block level for providing information to entrepreneurs.
  • Community Resource Persons – Enterprise Promotion (CRP-EPs)  along with the Block Programme Manager (BPM) and the Mentor are the key human resources at the block level for implementing the programme.
  • CRP-EPs are trained before they start working with the entrepreneurs, the training is a mix of classroom and field trainings. The total duration is for 56 days.

6th International One Health Day - 3rd November

  • It is a global campaign that celebrates and brings attention to the need for a One Health approach to address shared health threats at the human-animal-environment interface.
  • The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India organized a Stakeholder Forum today on the theme ‘Industry and One Health’ to celebrate the 6thInternational One Health Day

DRDO & Indian Air Force carry out successful flight tests of indigenously-developed smart anti-airfield weapon

  • The weapon was launched by an IAF aircraft from Chandan ranges at Jaisalmer, Rajasthan on October 28, 2021 and November 03, 2021.
  • Smart anti airfield weapon has been designed and developed by Research Centre Imarat (RCI) in coordination with other DRDO Laboratories and extensive support from IAF.

CSIR in collaboration of UT of Ladakh will start commercial cultivation of sea buckthorn berry also known as" Leh Berry" from coming spring season in Ladakh
