PM dedicates to the Nation 35 crop varieties with special traits

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 28 launched 35 crop varieties with special traits — developed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) — to address the twin challenges of climate change and malnutrition.

According to the PMO, 35 crop varieties with special traits like climate resilience and higher nutrient-content have been developed in 2021. These include a drought tolerant variety of chickpea, wilt and sterility mosaic resistant pigeonpea, early maturing variety of soybean, disease resistant varieties of rice and biofortified varieties of wheat, pearl millet, maize and chickpea, quinoa, buckwheat, winged bean and faba bean.

  • The Prime Minister also dedicated to the nation the newly constructed campus of the National Institute of Biotic Stress Management Raipur. 

Launch of NSWS (National Single Window System) for Investors’ ease

Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, launched the National Single Window System (NSWS) for investors and businesses.

The Minister said that this single window portal will become a one-stop shop for investors ushering freedom from the legacy of running to govt offices for approvals and registrations.

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade along with Invest India initiated the process of developing the portal as a National Single Window System 

  • A National Single Window is a customs portal where traders can submit all documents relating to trade and can access all relevant information regarding trade via a single electronic gate way.
  • All solutions on this portal will be there for all at one click of the mouse through ‘End to End’ facilitation.
  • This would bring Transparency, Accountability and Responsiveness in the ecosystem where all information will be available on a single dashboard. Simultaneously, an applicant  Dashboard will also be available to apply, track & respond to queries.
  • The National Singal Window System will provide several services like Know Your Approval (KYA), Common Registration & State Registration Form, Document repository & E-Communication.
  • The NSWS portal hosts approvals across 18 Central Departments & 9 States and another 14 Central depts & 5 states will be added by Dec’21.

National Action Plan for dog Mediated Rabies Elimination by 2030

  • On the occasion of World Rabies Day on 28th September, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare unveiled the National Action Plan for dog Mediated Rabies Elimination by 2030 (NAPRE)
  • National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has drafted this action plan.
  • Rabies is 100% fatal but 100% vaccine preventable. 33% of global rabies deaths are recorded in India
  • Rabies is a type of Zoonotic diseases (A zoonosis is an infectious disease that has jumped from a non-human animal to humans)

Country’s first Pan-India helpline for senior citizens: Elder Line (Toll Free No- 14567)

India is expected to have nearly 20% elderly population i.e. over 300 million senior citizens by 2050.

  • Elder Line is a culmination of the initiative of Tata Trusts, India’s oldest philanthropy, took through its partner, Vijayavahini Charitable Foundation, in 2017, in collaboration with the Government of Telangana in Hyderabad, to help the elderlies in the city. 
  • Today, Tata Trusts and NSE Foundation, as technical partners, are jointly supporting the Ministry in operationalizing Elder Line

Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment to organise VAYO NAMAN Programme on the occasion of International Day of Older Persons on 1st October, 2021

  • The Vice President of India, Shri M Venkaiah Naidu will be the chief guest of the programme and will confer the Vayosheshtra Samman awards. The Vice President will also dedicate the Elderly Line 14567 to the Nation and launch the Senior Able Citizens Reemployment in Dignity (SACRED) & Senior Care Ageing Growth Engine (SAGE) Portals on this occasion.

The Insolvency & Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) will celebrate its 5th Annual Day on 1st October, 2021.

  • India overhauled its insolvency regime by enacting the landmark Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 (Code). 
  • The Code completed its five years of existence on 28th May 2021.
  • A key pillar of the ecosystem responsible for implementation of the Code is the IBBI, which was established on 1st October 2016.

ECLGS’ scope expanded and scheme extended till 31.03.2022

Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) since its launch, has extended relief to over 1.15 crore Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and businesses.

As on 24th September 2021, loans sanctioned have crossed Rs. 2.86 lakh crore under the Scheme and out of total guarantees issued, about 95% of the guarantees issued are for loans sanctioned to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.

With a view to support various businesses impacted by the second wave of COVID 19 pandemic, it has been has decided to extend the timeline of Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) till 31.03.2022 or till guarantees for an  amount of Rs 4.5 lakh crore are issued under the scheme

The following modifications have been made in the scheme to enable support to businesses impacted by the second wave of COVID

  • Existing borrowers under ECLGS 1.0 & 2.0 would be eligible for additional credit support of upto 10% of total credit outstanding as on 29.02.2020 or 31.03.2021, whichever is higher.
  • Businesses who have not availed assistance under ECLGS (ECLGS 1.0 or 2.0),  can avail credit  support  of upto 30% of their credit outstanding as on 31.03.2021.
  • Businesses in sectors specified under ECLGS 3.0, who have previously not availed ECLGS, can avail credit support up to 40% of their credit outstanding as on 31.03.2021, to the maximum of Rs.200 crore per borrower;
  • Incremental credit can be availed within these limits by  existing ECLGS borrowers whose eligibility increased because of change in cut off date to 31.03.2021 from 29.02.2020.
  • Accordingly, Borrowers who have availed assistance under ECLGS and whose credit outstanding as on 31.03.2021 (excluding support under ECLGS) is higher than that on 29.02.2020 shall be eligible for incremental support within the cap stipulated under ECLGS 1.0,2.0 or 3.0.

MSME Minister launches India Export Initiative and IndiaXports 2021 Portal

  • India driving the export growth with the help of MSMEs and achieving the target of 400 Billion USD by this fiscal and achieving the challenging target of 1 trillion in exports by 2027
  • With more than 63 million MSMEs spread across the geographical expanse of India, MSMEs have been contributing nearly 40% of overall India’s exports, contributing to approx. 6.11% of the country’s manufacturing GDP & 24.63% of the GDP from services sector. 
  • IndiaXports aims to orient MSMEs free of cost, with the objective of focusing on the untapped export potential in existing tariff lines and supporting MSMEs in order to grow the number of exporting MSMEs and increase MSME exports by 50% in 2022
