Medicinal plants to be Cultivated on 75-thousand-hectares of land in the Country
- The National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB), Ministry of AYUSH has launched a national campaign to promote cultivation of medicinal plants in the country as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
- The program has been started from Saharanpur in UP and Pune in Maharashtra. This program is second in the series of programs being organized by the Ministry of Ayush under the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav'.
- In order to promote medicinal plants sector, Government of India set up National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB) on 24th November 2000.

First consignment of Ladakh Apricot exported to Dubai
- In a move which could boost agricultural and food products exports from Ladakh, first commercial shipment of Apricot sourced from region of Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh has been exported to Dubai.
- UT of Ladakh produces several varieties of Apricots out of which four to five varieties are taken up for commercial cultivation and export opportunities exist for these varieties.
- APEDA has been working to establish an export value chain for Ladakh Apricot in association with an importer Group based in Dubai
Powergrid Wins the Prestigious global ATD Best Award
- Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Maharatna CPSU under Ministry of Power, Government of India has been awarded the coveted “Association for Talent Development (ATD) 2021 BEST Award” securing 8thrank among the 71 organizations from around the globe, thus becoming the only PSU to win this award and one of the only two companies of India in Top 20.
- The Association for Talent Development (ATD, formerly ASTD) is the world's largest association dedicated to those who develop talent in organizations and ATD’s BEST Award is the talent development industry’s most rigorous and coveted recognition.
- POWERGRID has won this International recognition for its diligent efforts in talent development practices and programmes. The talent development initiative in POWERGRID is driven by POWERGRID Academy of Leadership (PAL).
Indian Railways’ Chandigarh Railway Station awarded 5-Star ‘Eat Right Station’ certification by FSSAI
- This certification is granted by FSSAI to railway stations adhering to standard food storage and hygiene practices.
- The 'Eat Right Station' certification is awarded by FSSAI to railway stations that set benchmarks in providing safe and wholesome food to passengers.
- The certification is part of the 'Eat Right India' movement- a large-scale effort by FSSAI to transform the country's food system to ensure safe, healthy and sustainable food for all Indians.
- Chandigarh Railway Station becomes the fifth station in India to get this recognition.
- The other railway stations with this certification include Anand Vihar Terminal Railway Station; (Delhi), Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus; (Mumbai), Mumbai Central Railway Station; (Mumbai) and Vadodara Railway Station.
India's Exports rose 45% in August 2021
India’s merchandise exports in August touched $33.14 billion, 45.17% higher than a year ago and 27.5% over the pre-pandemic level of August 2019
- Merchandise imports during the month grew 51.47% year-on-year to $47 billion, which is also 18% higher than August 2019
- The trade deficit widened 69.15% year-on-year to touch $13.87 billion but was just 0.07% higher than the pre-COVID level of 2019.
- In the first five months of 2021-22, India’s merchandise exports have now touched $163.67 billion, nearly 67% higher than the same period last year and 22.9% higher than 2019.
- The government has set a target of merchandise exports worth $400 billion for the year.
Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare celebrates World Coconut Day (2nd Sep)
Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare celebrated World Coconut Day on Thursday to commemorate the foundation day of the International Coconut Community, an inter-governmental organization of coconut producing countries under the aegis of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, UN-ESCAP
- India has made great progress in the field of coconut and it is at the fore in production and productivity and ranks third in the world
- The production of coconut in the country stood at 21,207 million nuts during 2020-21, which is 34 per cent of the global production.
- The Minister said, the productivity is 9687 nuts per hectare, which is the highest in the world
- The theme for the 23rd World Coconut Day celebrations this year is Building a safe, inclusive resilient and sustainable coconut community amid COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
- Coconut Development Board is a statutory body established on 12th Jan 1981 in Kochi, Kerala under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Government of India for the integrated development of coconut and coconut-related products.
