New portal under Bhuvan “Yuktdhara” will facilitate planning of new MGNREGA assets using Remote Sensing and GIS based information

1183 mobilization camps organized across the country under the DDU-GKY as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav
As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) celebrations, around 1183 ‘mobilisation camps’ were organized across the country under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) programme between 13th and 19th August, 2021
State Rural Livelihood Missions (SRLMs), State Skills Missions (SSM) came together with various Project Implementation Agencies (PIAs) to make the all-India event a grand success.
Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY)
- DDU-GKY launched on the 25th September, 2014, is a nationwide placement-linked skill training program funded by the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India (GoI)
- DDU-GKY is a part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), tasked with the dual objectives of adding diversity to the incomes of rural poor families and cater to the career aspirations of rural youth.
- DDU-GKY is uniquely focused on rural youth between the ages of 15 and 35 years from poor families.
- The programme has an outcome led design with guaranteed placements for at least 70% trained candidates With a minimum recommended monthly salary of INR 6,000/- (varying based on training acquired).
- DDU-GKY is being Implemented in 27 States and 3 UTs.
Around 129.03 Lakh farmers benefitted from Kharif Marketing Season procurement
Paddy procurement
- It has reached at an all-time high level, surpassing previous high of 773.45 LMT in KMS 2019-20.
- About 129.03 Lakh farmers have already been benefitted from the ongoing KMS procurement Operations with MSP value of Rs. 1,64,951.77 Crore.
Paddy procurement in the ongoing season Kharif 2020-21 is continuing smoothly in the procuring States with purchase of 873.68 LMTs of paddy (includes Kharif Crop 707.69 LMT and Rabi Crop 165.99 LMT) upto 23.08.2021 against the last year corresponding purchase of 763.01 LMT.
Marketing Season RMS 2021-22
It has concluded in wheat procuring States and till now (upto 18.08.2021) a quantity of 433.44 LMT of Wheat has been procured (which is all time high, as it has exceeded previous high 389.93 LMT of RMS 2020-21) against the last year corresponding purchase of 389.93 LMT.
About 49.20 Lakh farmers have already been benefitted from the ongoing RMS procurement operations with MSP value of Rs. 85603.57Crore.
Pulse and Oilseeds
Further, based on the proposal from the States, approval was accorded for procurement of 109.58 LMT of Pulse and Oilseeds of Kharif Marketing Season 2020-21 & Rabi Marketing Season 2021 and Summer season 2021 for the States of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh under Price Support Scheme (PSS)
The sanction for procurement of 1.74 LMT of Copra (the perennial crop) for the States of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala was also given
Upto 23.08.2021 the Government through its Nodal Agencies has procured 11,91,926.47 MT of Moong, Urad, Tur, Gram, Masoor, Groundnut Pods, Sunflower seed, Mustard Seedand Soyabean having MSP value of Rs. 6,686.59 Crores benefitting 6,96,803 farmers in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Haryana, Odisha and Rajasthan under Kharif 2020-21 and Rabi 2021 and Summer 2021
CCEA approves determination of FRP of sugarcane payable by Sugar Mills for sugar season 2021-22
CCEA chaired by PM Modi has approved Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) of sugarcane for sugar season 2021-22 (October - September) at Rs. 290/- per quintal for a basic recovery rate of 10%
Where recovery is below 9.5%. Such farmers will get Rs. 275.50 per quintal for sugarcane
In the current sugar season 2020-21, about 2,976 lakh tons of sugarcane of worth Rs. 91,000 cr was purchased by sugar mills, which is at all time high level & is the second highest next to the procurement of paddy crop at MSP.
Background:
The FRP has been determined on the basis of recommendations of Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) and after consultation with State Governments and other stake-holders.
In last 3 sugar seasons 2017-18, 2018-19 & 2019-20, about 6.2 Lakh Metric Tonne (LMT), 38 LMT & 59.60 LMT of sugar has been exported.
- In the current sugar season 2020-21 (Oct – Sept.), against the export target of 60 LMT, contracts of about 70 LMT have been signed & more than 55 LMT has been physically exported from the country, as on 23.8.2021.
In past 3 sugar seasons about Rs. 22,000 crore revenue was generated by sugar mills/ distilleries from sale of ethanol to Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs). In the current sugar season 2020-21, about Rs. 15,000 cr revenue is being generated by sugar mills from sale of ethanol to OMCs at 8.5%
BRICS-Agricultural Research Platform operationalized
Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shri Narendra Singh Tomar today announced the operationalization of BRICS Agricultural Research Platform prepared and set up in India for strengthening the cooperation in the field of agricultural research & innovations amongst the BRICS member States.
- The Minister was addressing the 11th meeting of BRICS Agriculture Ministers under the theme BRICS Partnership for Strengthening Agro Biodiversity for Food Security and Nutrition.
- The BRICS-ARP has been operationalized to intensify cooperation in the areas of agricultural research, technology, policy, innovations and capacity building
- The Coordinating Centre of the BRICS Agricultural Research Platform is housed at NASC Complex, Pusa under the governance of Department of Agricultural Research & Education/ICAR, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare.
8th Meeting of Agricultural Experts of BIMSTEC Countries held
India hosted the 8th Meeting of Agriculture Experts of Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Countries virtually
The Chairman highlighted the UN Food System Summit 2021 and the transformations that are happening in the agriculture and food systems globally.
About BIMSTEC:
- The BIMSTEC provides a unique link between South and South-East Asia with 5 countries - Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka from South Asia and two countries - Myanmar and Thailand from South-East Asia coming together on one platform for cooperation in 14 key economic and social sectors of the economy.
- The BIMSTEC was founded in 1997 with an ambition to pursue mutual trade, connectivity and cultural, technical and economic development in the region
- Initially, six sectors- trade, technology, energy, transport, tourism and fisheries were included for sectoral cooperation which was later expanded to 14 areas of cooperation. Agriculture is one of the 14 sectors.
- The 4th Summit of BIMSTEC Heads of States held on August 30-31, 2018 at Kathmandu emphasized deepening the cooperation in the agriculture sector to attain food and nutritional security
UN Food System Summit 2021
- The UN Food Systems Summit to be held during the UN General Assembly in New York on September 23, is setting the stage for global food systems transformation to achieve the SDG by 2030.
- The UN Food Systems Summit aims to launch bold new actions to transform the way the world produces and consumes food, as part of the Decade of Action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
The Summit is scheduled to take place at the margins of the General Assembly in 2021 and will be guided by five Action Tracks that plan to bring together key players and draw on the expertise of actors from across the world’s food systems.
- Action Track 1: Ensure access to safe and nutritious food for all
- Action Track 2: Shift to sustainable consumption patterns
- Action Track 3: Boost nature-positive production
- Action Track 4: Advance equitable livelihoods
- Action Track 5: Build resilience to vulnerabilities, shocks and stress
