NIRF Ranking List 2021 Updates: Union Education minister Dharmendra Pradhan today declared the National Institutional Ranking Framework India ranking 2021 (NIRF India ranking 2021) at nirfindia.org. The education minister released the sixth annual NIRF India ranking list 2021. IIT Madras was adjudged the top institute in the NIRF overall category for the sixth consecutive year. A new category, research institution, was introduced this year taking the total number of categories to 11.
The ranking framework judges institutions under five broad generic groups of parameters of Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practice (RP), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI) and Perception (PR). Ranks are assigned based on the total sum of marks assigned for each of these five broad groups of parameters.
IIT-Madras, IISc-Bangalore, and IIT-Bombay have emerged as the country’s top three higher education institutions in the sixth edition of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) announced by Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Thursday.
AIIMS-Delhi is the country’s top medical institute, followed by PGIMER Chandigarh and Christian Medical College in Vellore.
The research category was introduced this year and IISc-Bangalore has been adjudged the best, followed by IIT-Madras and IIT-Bombay. This year roughly 6,000 education institutions participated in NIRF.
Key Highlights of NIRF Rankings 2021:
- Indian Institute of Technology Madras retains 1st Position in Overall Category as well as in Engineering for the third consecutive year.
- Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru tops the University as well as Research Institution category introduced for the first time in India Rankings 2021.
- IIM Ahmedabad tops in Management subject and All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi occupies the top slot in Medical for the fourth consecutive year.
- Jamia Hamdard tops the list in Pharmacy subject for the third consecutive year.
- Miranda College retains 1st position amongst colleges for the fifth consecutive year.
- IIT Roorkee takes the top slot for the first time in Architecture subject displacing IIT Kharagpur.
- National Law School of India University, Bangalore retains its first position for in Law for the fourth consecutive years.
- Colleges in Delhi dominate ranking of colleges with five colleges out of first 10 colleges from Delhi.
- Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Manipal, secure 1st position in “Dental” category.
- The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was approved by the MHRD and launched by Honourable Minister of Human Resource Development on 29th September 2015.
- This framework outlines a methodology to rank institutions across the country. The methodology draws from the overall recommendations broad understanding arrived at by a Core Committee set up by MHRD, to identify the broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions.
- The parameters broadly cover “Teaching, Learning and Resources,” “Research and Professional Practices,” “Graduation Outcomes,” “Outreach and Inclusivity,” and “Perception”.
- First NIRF Rankings – 2016 based on this framework were released on 4th April 2016.
- The NIRF rankings 2021 categories are- Overall, Universities, Engineering, Colleges, Research institution (newly added), Management, Pharmacy, Medical, Architecture, and Dental and Law. The dental college NIRF ranking was introduced last year.
