Stellaps, a dairy tech startup, enter into milk procurement, begun in Kolar

  • Stellaps Technologies, a digital dairy supply chain solutions provider, has entered into milk procurement and begun purchasing milk for major brands such as ITC and CavinKare.
  • The company, which is developing a milk procurement network, also plans to provide dairy farmers with extension services such as feed, fertilizers, and supplements.

Amazon launched Kisan store, offer competitive prices, doorstep delivery

  • Amazon India has launched the Kisan (farmer) store, which will offer buyers competitive prices on agri-inputs such as seeds, farm tools, and accessories, as well as the added service concept of delivery to their doorstep.
  • Farmers can also visit any of the over 50,000 Amazon Easy store locations across the country for assistance with their buying facility. 

ADAK opened aqua diagnostic laboratory for fish & shrimp infections

  • The Agency for Development of Aquaculture Kerala (ADAK) has opened an aqua diagnostic laboratory at Varkala, near Thiruvananthapuram, with the goal of early diagnosis of fish and shrimp infections.
  • The Kochi-based ICAR–Central Institute of Fisheries Technology has provided training to ADAK officials to improve their technical competence as part of the effort.

India Approves Lentil Imports from Russia for a Six-Month Period

  • For the first time, the government has approved the import of lentils from Russia, reducing the country's reliance on Canada and Australia for the legume. 

Workshop on “Promotion of Bee-Keeping Sector in Southern Region” organized jointly by MANAGE, Hyderabad and National Bee Board (NBB), New Delhi

  • Beekeeping is an agro-based activity which is being undertaken by farmers/ landless labourers in rural area as a part of Integrated Farming System (IFS).

National Beekeeping & Honey Mission (NBHM) 

  • It aims to achieve the goal of ‘Sweet Revolution’ as part of Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan
  • Keeping in view the importance of beekeeping as part of the Integrated Farming System in the country, government approved the allocation for Rs. 500 crore for National Beekeeping & Honey Mission (NBHM) for three years (2020-21 to 2022-23)
  • Besides,  the scheme also aims to create awareness about scientific bee keeping  under Mini Mission-I, post-harvest management of beekeeping, beehive products, including collection, processing, storage, marketing, value addition, etc. under Mini Mission-II and Research & Technology generation in beekeeping under Mini Mission-III. 
  • Rs 150.00 Crores has been allotted to NBHM for 2020-21.

Main achievements:

  • Two World Class State of the Art Honey Testing Labs, one at NDDB, Anand, Gujarat & one IIHR, Bengaluru, Karnataka, have been approved/ set up.
  • 5 FPOs of Beekeeper/honey producers in the States of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan & West Bengal have been formed and launched by Minister of Agri.& FW on 26.11.2020.
  • Farmers/ beekeepers have been trained in scientific beekeeping including production of high value beehive products, viz.; Bee Pollen, Propolis, Royal Jelly, Bee Venom, etc.
  • Honey production has increased from 76,150 MTs (2013-14) to 1,20,000 MTs (2019-20) which is 57.58 % increase.
  • Export of honey has increased from 28,378.42 MTs (2013-14) to 59536.74MTs (2019-20) which is 109.80 % increase.

APEDA inks MoUs with ICAR-Indian Institute of Millet Research

For increasing exports through quality production and processing, Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) signed a MoU with ICAR-Indian Institute of Millet Research (ICAR-IIMR) which is expected to boost value addition and farmers’ income.

  • The key focus of the MoU would be to promote commercial cultivation of processable varieties developed by ICAR-IIMR for exports which is expected to promote value addition of millets, a cereal with high nutritive value.
  • Millets are coarse grains and a repository of protein, fibre, vitamins and minerals. They include jowar (sorghum), ragi (finger millet), korra (foxtail millet), arke (kodo millet), sama (little millet), bajra (pearl millet), chena/barr (proso millet) and sanwa (barnyard millet).
  • United Nations General Assembly has passed the resolution to celebrate the International Year of Millets (IYM) in 2023

  • Indian Institute of Millets Research (IIMR) (HQ-Hyderabad) is a premier agricultural research institute engaged in basic and strategic research on sorghum and other millets under Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
Over 16% increase in paddy procurement compared to previous season

In the ongoing season of Kharif 2020-21, purchase of 889.62 LMTs of paddy (includes Kharif Crop 718.09 LMT and Rabi Crop 171.53 LMT) up to 05.09.2021 has been done against the last year corresponding purchase of 764.39 LMT.

This has benefitted about 130.47 Lakh farmers from the ongoing KMS procurement Operations with MSP value of Rs. 1,67,960.77 Crore. Paddy procurement has reached at all-time high level, surpassing previous high of 773.45 LMT in KMS 2019-20.


Marketing Season RMS 2021-22 has concluded in wheat procuring States and till now (upto 18.08.2021) a quantity of 433.44 LMT of Wheat has been procured (which is all time high, as it has exceeded previous high 389.93 LMT of RMS 2020-21) against the last year corresponding purchase of 389.93 LMT.

About 49.20 Lakh farmers have already been benefitted from the ongoing RMS procurement operations with MSP value of Rs. 85603.57 Crore.

For the cropping year 2020-21 which includes Kharif 2020-21, Rabi 2021 and Summer 2021 seasons, the Government through its Nodal Agencies has procured 11,99,713.15 MT of Pulses and Oilseeds having MSP value of Rs.6,742.51Crores benefitting 7,02,368farmers in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Haryana, Odisha and Rajasthan upto05.09.2021.

Fresh crop arrivals of Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2021-22 season is expected to arrive soon. Based on the proposal received from Karnataka State, approval was accorded for procurement of 40,000 MT of Pulses under Price Support Scheme (PSS) during KMS 2021-22

For the season 2021-22, sanction for procurement of 51000 MT of Copra from Tamil Nadu has been given, against which 8.30 MT having MSP value of Rs. 0.09 crores has been procured benefitting 36 farmers in Tamil Nadu, up to 05.09.2021.
