Press Information Bureau (PIB) releases news related to the policies, programmes, initiatives and achievements of the Government of India. PIB releases are important to be read for the RBI Grade B, NABARD Grade A, UPSC Civil Services however, it is also equally important is to know which PIB Article should be read and which to be left.

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) is the nodal agency of the government of India to broadcast and publicize information on government policies, initiatives, achievements and working of every ministry and department within the government through its official website using various articles, images and photographs.

PIB Summary for UPSC, RBI Grade B

Over 1 lakh people getting pension directly into their bank accounts through SAMPANN project

  • SAMPANN – ‘System for Accounting and Management of Pension’ is an ambitious project of Government of India being implemented by Controller General of Communication Accounts, Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications.
  • It was dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister  Shri Narendra Modi on 29th December, 2018. It is a seamless online pension processing and payment system for Department of Telecommunications pensioners. It provides direct credit of pension into the bank accounts of pensioners.

"Main Bhi Digital 3.0" campaign aimed at digital onboarding of Street Vendors who are provided loans under PM SVANidhi Scheme

  • Digital onboarding and training of Street Vendors (SVs) is an integral part of PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbharNidhi (PM SVANidhi) Scheme.
  • In order to give further impetus to the digital onboarding and training of beneficiaries, Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) jointly launched ‘Main Bhi Digital 3.0’from September 9 to November 30, 2021
  • "Main Bhi Digital 3.0" campaign is aimed at digital onboarding of Street Vendors (SVs)who have already been provided loans under PM SVANidhi Scheme.
  • An Integrated IT Platform has been developed for implementation of this Scheme. The application process is fully online.

AAI owns 136 airports in the country including 7 Joint Venture airports

  • 25 AAI airports earmarked for asset monetization under National Monetization Pipeline
  • Incentive of Rs. 120 crore has been provided for Indian manufacturers of drone and drone components under PLI Scheme

Work Under CADWM

  • Command Area Development & Water Management (CADWM) scheme was started as a centrally sponsored scheme in the year 1974-75 with the objective to bridge the gap between irrigation potential created and utilized.
  • Subsequently, from 2015-16 onwards, the scheme has been brought under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY). With the new scheme of prioritized Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Sinchayee Yojana (AIBP) projects approved in July 2016, central assistance under CADWM has been restricted to these prioritized projects only.
  • Thus, 88 projects (including 1 project for non-structural intervention) have been included under PMKSY-CADWM, targeting additional culturable command area (CCA) of 45 lakh hectares, for the total estimated cost of Rs 18,736 crore with targeted central assistance (CA) of Rs.8,236 crore.

Har Ghar Jal Scheme

  • Since August, 2019, Government of India in partnership with States, is implementing Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) – HarGharJal, after subsuming erstwhile National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP), to make provision of potable tap water supply to every rural household in the country by 2024.
  • Since launch of mission more than 5.38 Crore rural households have been provided tap water connection. 
  • Thus, as on 05.12.2021, out of total 19.22 Crore rural households in the country, now 8.61 Crore (44.84%) households have provision of tap water supply.
  •  At the time of announcement of JalJeevan Mission, out of 18.93 Crore rural households, 3.23 Crore (17%) households were reported to have tap water connections.
  • The estimated outlay of the mission is Rs. 3.60 lakh Crore, out of which Central share is Rs. 2.08 lakh Crore.
    • To enable individuals; institutions; corporates; philanthropists, etc., who have a desire to ‘give back to the society’ and be a part of this movement, a ‘Rashtriya Jal Jeevan Kosh (RJJK)’ has been set up to receive contributions/ donations to achieve the goal of JalJeevan Mission.
    • A dedicated website https://jaljeevankosh.gov.in has been developed to facilitate donation/ contribution from donors, which can be made directly through RJJK website and also through JJM mobile app.

Promotion of MSMES

As informed by SIDBI, the following programmes were launched by SIDBI to help and revive the MSME sector across the country

  • Special Liquidity Facility for MSMEs:- In April 2020, RBI provided special refinance facilities for a total amount of Rs. 50,000 crore to NABARD, SIDBI and NHB to enable them to meet sectoral credit needs, of which SIDBI received Rs. 15,000 crore to continue lending to MSMEs.
    • In April 2021, another tranche of Rs. 15,000 crore was granted by RBI to meet the funding requirements of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in FY 2022.
  • Initiatives under Direct Finance: - Direct Lending operations of the Bank primarily focuses on ensuring uninterrupted flow of credit to MSMEs, especially to those engaged in fighting the pandemic.
  • Cluster Development: - The Bank has launched SIDBI Cluster Development Fund (SCDF) of Rs. 6,990 crore to support the State Governments / State Government sponsored Organizations to attend to cluster development from both soft and hard infrastructure.
  • Financing micro-entrepreneurs:- The b PRAYAAS Initiative of the Bank is aimed to facilitate access to low-cost finance for micro-entrepreneurs/ micro-enterprises, in the “Missing Middle Segment” by providing loans ranging from Rs. 0.50 lakh to Rs. 5.00 lakh at a cheaper rate through Partner Institutions.
  • Virtual Ecosystem:- The Udyamimitra Portal of the Bank is a universal digital platform that aims to provide end-to-end solutions for not only credit delivery, but also a host of credit-plus services by way of handholding support to the MSMEs.
  • Implementing PMSVA Nidhi:- The Scheme was announced by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India to facilitate working capital loan up to           Rs. 10,000 to provide financial aid to Street vendors during the situation of COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Digital Lending to MSMEs:- PSBLoansin59minutes is the first contactless lending platform for MSMEs developed under consortium of PSBs led by SIDBI.
  • Swavalamban Connect Kendra (SCKs):- The Bank under its umbrella program “Mission Swavalamban” has initiated setting up of 100 SCKs in 100 districts across 5 states viz., U.P., Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha & Telangana.
  • Swavalamban Crisis Responsive Fund (SCRF):- The Bank has set up SCRF with the support of FCDO, Govt. of United Kingdom, to support free on boarding of MSMEs on the TReDS platform.

Post Covid-19, the Government has taken a number of initiatives under Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan to support the MSME Sector in the country especially in Covid-19 pandemic. Some of them are:

  • Rs 20,000 crore Subordinate Debt for MSMEs.
  • Rs. 3 lakh crores Collateral free Automatic Loans for business, including MSMEs. The limit of Rs. 3.00 Lakh Crore has been enhanced to Rs 4.5 lakh  crore.
  • Rs. 50,000 crore equity infusion through MSME Fund of Funds (Self Reliant India Fund).
  • New revised criteria for classification of MSMEs.
  • New Registration of MSMEs through 'Udyam Registration' for Ease of Doing Business.
  • No global tenders for procurement up to Rs. 200 crores, this will help MSME.
  • An online Portal “Champions” has been launched on 01.06.2020 by Prime Minister.

Free Coaching to Minority Communities

  • Ministry of Minority Affairs implements Free Coaching and Allied Scheme ( Naya Savera) to assist students/candidates belonging to the six notified minority communities namely Sikh, Jain, Muslim, Christian, Buddhist and Parsi by way of special coaching for qualifying examinations for admission in technical/professional courses and competitive examination for recruitment to Group ‘A’, ‘B’, & ‘C’ services and other equivalent posts under the Central and State Governments including public sector undertakings, banks, insurance companies as well as autonomous bodies

Funds for the Benefit of the Minorities

  • The Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK), a Centrally Sponsored Scheme is implemented in 1300 identified Minority Concentration Areas (MCAs) of the Country with the objective to develop socio-economic assets and basic amenities in these areas.
  • The programme aims to develop socio-economic and basic amenities assets like school, college, polytechnic, girls hostel, ITI, skill development centre etc for the minority communities.
  • The erstwhile Multi-sectoral Development Programme (MsDP) has been restructured and renamed as Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram for effective implementation since 2018.
  • 80% of the resources under the PMJVK would be earmarked for projects related to education, health and skill development.
  • 33 to 40% of resources under the PMJVK would be specifically allocated for women centric projects.
  • Earlier only those Cluster of Villages which were having at least 50% population of Minority Community was taken. The population criteria have been lowered to 25% for inclusive growth.
    • At present 6 (six) communities namely Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Zoroastrians (Parsis) and Jains have been notified as Minority Communities under Section 2 (c) of the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992.

Government has set a target to raise the share of natural gas in energy mix to 15% in 2030

The Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Shri Rameswar Teli in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today informed that the Government has set a target to raise the share of natural gas in energy mix to 15% in 2030 from about 6.7% now.

SATAT initiatives to promote Bio-CNG.

  • Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT) is an effort that would benefit both vehicle-users as well as farmers and entrepreneurs. 
  • It is an initiative aimed at setting up Compressed Bio-Gas production plants and makes them available in the market for use in automotive fuels by inviting Expression of Interest from potential entrepreneurs.
  • The initiative was launched in October 2018 by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas in association with the PSUs- Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd.
  • CBG produced at these plants will be transported through cascades of cylinders to the fuel station networks of OMCs for marketing as a green transport fuel alternative.
  • Earlier, the Government of India had launched the GOBAR-DHAN (Galvanising Organic Bio-Agro Resources) scheme to convert cattle dung and solid waste in farms to CBG and compost.
