Press Information Bureau (PIB) releases news related to the policies, programmes, initiatives and achievements of the Government of India. PIB releases are important to be read for the RBI Grade B, NABARD Grade A, UPSC Civil Services however, it is also equally important is to know which PIB Article should be read and which to be left.
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) is the nodal agency of the government of India to broadcast and publicize information on government policies, initiatives, achievements and working of every ministry and department within the government through its official website using various articles, images and photographs.
Krishi UDAN 2.0 focuses on transporting perishable food products from the hilly areas, northeastern states and tribal areas
- The scheme aims to ensure seamless, cost-effective, time-bound air transportation and associated logistics for all Agri-produce originating especially from Northeast, hilly and tribal regions of the country
- The scheme focuses on more than 50 airports of NER, Hilly and Tribal region of the country
- Krishi UDAN Scheme was launched in August 2020, on international and national routes to assist farmers in transporting agricultural products so that it improves their value realization
About 18.17 Lakh farmers have been benefitted with MSP value of Rs. 57,032.03 crore in KMS 2021-22
- A quantity of 290.98 LMT of Paddy has been procured in KMS 2021-22 upto 30.11.2021
- So far, the maximum procurement in the ongoing KMS season is done from Punjab (18685532 MT) followed by Haryana (5530596 MT) and Uttar Pradesh (1242593 MT).
- Pertinently, in KMS 2020-21, at least 13113417 famers were benefitted with MSP value of Rs. 168823.23 crore (as on 30.11.2021) and procurement of 89419081 MT was done.
Kala Sanskriti Vikas Yojna (KSVY)
- Ministry of Culture implements Scheme of Financial Assistance for the Development of Buddhist/Tibetan Culture and Art under “Kala Sanskriti Vikas Yojna (KSVY)”
- Under this scheme, financial assistance is provided to the voluntary Buddhist and Tibetan Organizations including Monasteries engaged in the propagation and scientific development of Buddhist/ Tibetan Culture and tradition, located in any part of the country.
- The quantum of funding is Rs.30.00 lakhs per year for an organization. The Expert Advisory Committee (EAC) on the scheme is empowered to recommend the amount beyond the maximum limit but not exceeding Rs.1.00 crore from this scheme.
Scheme for Protection and Preservation of Endangered Languages of India (SPPEL)
- The policy of the Government is to promote all Indian Languages including endangered languages.
- Under this Scheme, the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysore works on protection, preservation and documentation of all the mother tongues/languages of India spoken by less than 10,000 people which are called endangered languages.
- In the first phase of the scheme, 117 endangered languages/mother tongues have been chosen from all over India for study and documentation on a priority basis.
- The University Grants Commission (UGC) has also initiated two schemes for protection of endangered languages, namely ‘Funding Support to the State Universities for Study and Research in Indigenous and Endangered languages in India’ and ‘Establishment of Centres for Endangered Languages in Central Universities’.
Rajya Sabha Passes The Landmark ‘Dam Safety Bill (2019)’
- After China and USA, India is the 3rd largest dam-owning nation in the world. There are around 5,700 large dams in the country, of which about 80% are already over 25 years old. Nearly 227 dams that are over 100 years old are still functional.
- As per the provision of the Bill, a National Committee on Dam Safety (NCDS) will be constituted to help evolve uniform dam safety policies, protocols, and procedures.
- The Bill also provides for the establishment of a National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) as a regulatory body for ensuring the nationwide implementation of dam safety policies and standards.
- At the State level, the Bill prescribes for the constitution of State Committees on Dam Safety (SCDS) and the establishment of the State Dam Safety Organizations (SDSO).
Support to MSME Sector
- The World Bank has communicated to the Ministry of MSME that, in its Board meeting dated 4th June 2021, it has approved a loan of US $500 million (₹ 3750 Cr) to assist Government of India’s programme “Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP)”, which is an initiative to revitalize the MSME sector that has been heavily impacted by the COVID -19 pandemic.
- RAMP is a part of the MSME Competitiveness – A Post COVID Resilience and Recovery Programme (MCRRP). State-wise investments and approvals for RAMP programme have not been made since Cabinet approval for RAMP is awaited.
- As per the World Bank Programme Appraisal Document for the RAMP programme, over 40 percent of MSMEs lack access to formal sources of finance.
Steps taken for increasing Solar energy generation in the country
- Permitting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) up to 100 percent under the automatic route
- Waiver of Inter State Transmission System (ISTS) charges for inter-state sale of solar and wind power for projects to be commissioned by 30th June 2025
- Schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM), Solar Rooftop Phase II, 12000 MW CPSU Scheme Phase II, etc,
- Launch of Green Term Ahead Market (GTAM) to facilitate sale/purchase of Renewable Energy including Solar power through exchanges.
- Laying new transmission lines and creating new sub-station capacity for evacuation of renewable power under Green Energy Corridor Scheme.
Government notified the National Policy on Biofuels to promote the use
- The Government notified the National Policy on Biofuels (NPB) - 2018 on 04.06.2018 to promote the use of biofuels in the country.
- The NPB envisages an indicative target of 20% blending of ethanol in petrol by 2030 and 5% blending of biodiesel in diesel by 2030.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June, 2021, advanced the country’s target of 20 per cent ethanol blending in petrol by five years to 2025, from 2030.
As on date, over 33 lakh LED bulbs have been distributed under Gram UJALA programme
Gram Ujala: Under Gram UJALA programme, incandescent bulbs are replaced by efficient LED bulbs that consumes 88% less electricity. As on date, over 33 lakh LED bulbs have been distributed under this programme. This has resulted in an estimated energy saving of 467 million kWh per annum.
- Recently, the Government has launched the Gram UJALA Programme - an ambitious scheme offering the world’s cheapest LED bulbs in rural areas at a mere Rs. 10.
Coverage: In its first phase launched from Arrah in Bihar, 15 million LED bulbs will be distributed across villages of 5 districts - Aarah (Bihar), Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh), Nagpur (Maharashtra), and villages in western Gujarat.
- 7 watt and 12-watt LED bulbs with 3 years warranty will be given to rural consumers against submission of working Incandescent bulbs. Each household will get up to 5 LEDs.
- The LED bulbs are offered by state-run Energy Efficiency Services Ltd’s (EESL’s) subsidiary Convergence Energy Services Ltd (CESL).
- The programme will be financed entirely through carbon credits and will be the first such programme in India.
- Carbon credit (or “carbon offsets”) are certificates generated by projects or activities that reduce, avoid, or destroy greenhouse gases.
- SDG7: To ensure universal access to affordable, reliable and modern energy services.
The UJALA (Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All) and SLNP (Street Lighting National Programme) completed six years of successful implementation on 24th Feb 2021. The two programmes revamped household and public lighting systems across the country.
- Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA) scheme aims to facilitate faster uptake of LED lamps through aggregation of demand. Under this programme, 36.78 Crore LED bulbs have been sold till November 2021, which provides annual electricity savings of 48 Billion Units.
- Both schemes have been implemented by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of PSUs under the Ministry of Power.
- UJALA is a zero-subsidy scheme launched by the Government in 2015. It is touted as the world’s largest domestic lighting project.
- The SLNP, launched in 2015, is a government scheme to promote energy-efficiency in India.
- Under the programme, EESL replaces the conventional street lights with LEDs at its own costs, with no upfront investment by the municipalities, thereby making their adoption even more attractive.
- The SLNP has plans to bring investment of Rs. 8,000 crores by 2024 to cover the entire rural India.
- Under SLNP about 1.22 crore LED street lights were replaced across India as on November, 2021. This has led to annual electricity savings of 8.2 Billion Units.
Buildings Energy Efficiency Programme (BEEP): Building Energy Efficiency Program (BEEP) was launched to implement energy efficiency measures in Government buildings across India. Under this Program 10,451 Buildings have been retrofitted with energy efficient equipment like LED Lights, 5 Star rated Fans and super-efficient Air-conditions. Due to above interventions, there are energy savings of 250 million kWh per annum.
Agricultural Demand Side Management (AgDSM): Under this programme, 5-star energy efficient agricultural pumps are distributed to ensure a minimum of 30% reduction in energy consumption. As on date, about 79,000 nos. pumps have been installed in the States of Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. This has resulted in estimated energy savings of 204 million kWh per year.
Rural Circuit as one of the 15 thematic circuits under its scheme of ‘Swadesh Darshan’
- The Ministry of Tourism has identified Rural Circuit as one of the 15 thematic circuits under its scheme of ‘Swadesh Darshan’ with the primary objective to create tourism infrastructure at the selected sites/destinations and to enhance visitor experience/satisfaction.
- Ministry has sanctioned projects in Bihar and Kerala till now under this circuit.
