8th Meeting of Agricultural Experts of BIMSTEC Countries held
India hosted the 8th Meeting of Agriculture Experts of Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Countries virtually
The Chairman highlighted the UN Food System Summit 2021 and the transformations that are happening in the agriculture and food systems globally.
About BIMSTEC:
- The BIMSTEC provides a unique link between South and South-East Asia with 5 countries - Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka from South Asia and two countries - Myanmar and Thailand from South-East Asia coming together on one platform for cooperation in 14 key economic and social sectors of the economy.
- The BIMSTEC was founded in 1997 with an ambition to pursue mutual trade, connectivity and cultural, technical and economic development in the region
- Initially, six sectors- trade, technology, energy, transport, tourism and fisheries were included for sectoral cooperation which was later expanded to 14 areas of cooperation. Agriculture is one of the 14 sectors.
- The 4th Summit of BIMSTEC Heads of States held on August 30-31, 2018 at Kathmandu emphasized deepening the cooperation in the agriculture sector to attain food and nutritional security
UN Food System Summit 2021
- The UN Food Systems Summit to be held during the UN General Assembly in New York on September 23, is setting the stage for global food systems transformation to achieve the SDG by 2030.
- The UN Food Systems Summit aims to launch bold new actions to transform the way the world produces and consumes food, as part of the Decade of Action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
The Summit is scheduled to take place at the margins of the General Assembly in 2021 and will be guided by five Action Tracks that plan to bring together key players and draw on the expertise of actors from across the world’s food systems.
- Action Track 1: Ensure access to safe and nutritious food for all
- Action Track 2: Shift to sustainable consumption patterns
- Action Track 3: Boost nature-positive production
- Action Track 4: Advance equitable livelihoods
- Action Track 5: Build resilience to vulnerabilities, shocks and stress
INDEX OF EIGHT CORE INDUSTRIES (BASE: 2011-12=100) FOR JULY, 2021
- The Office of Economic Adviser, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) is releasing Index of Eight Core Industries (ICI) for the Month of July, 2021
- ICI measures combined and individual performance of production in selected eight core industries viz. Coal, Crude Oil, Natural Gas, Refinery Products, Fertilizers, Steel, Cement and Electricity
- The Eight Core Industries comprise 40.27 percent of the weight of items included in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP).
- The combined Index of Eight Core Industries stood at 134.0 in July 2021, which increased by9.4 per cent (provisional) as compared to the Index of July 2020.
- Final growth rate of Index of Eight Core Industries for April 2021 is revised to 62.6%from its provisional level 56.1%.
- The growth rate of ICI during April-July 2021-22 was 21.2% (P) as compared to the corresponding period of last FY.
Indian Navy signs contract with BEL for supply of Naval Anti drone system
- Indian Navy has signed contract with Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Limited (BEL) for supply of the first indigenous comprehensive Naval Anti Drone System (NADS) with both hard kill and soft kill capabilities in New Delhi on August 31, 2021.
- First indigenously developed anti-drone system, NADSto be inducted by Indian Navy
- The NADS, developed by DRDO and manufactured by BEL, is the first indigenously developed anti-drone system to be inducted into the Indian Armed Forces
All-India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (2016=100) for July, 2021
- The Labour Bureau, an attached office of the Ministry of Labour & Employment, has been compiling Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers every month on the basis of retail prices collected from 317 markets spread over 88 industrially important centres in the country.
- The index is compiled for 88 centres and All-India and is released on the last working day of succeeding month.
- The All-India CPI-IW for July, 2021 increased by 1.1 points and stood at 122.8 (one hundred twenty-two and point eight).
- On 1-month percentage change, it increased by 0.90 per cent with respect to previous month compared to an increase of 1.20 per cent recorded between corresponding months a year ago.
Union Minister Shri Pralhad Joshi Congratulates Ms.Akanksha Kumari, The First Ever Woman Mining Engineer to work in Underground Mines
- Akanksha Kumari, a mining graduatehas joined the Churi underground mines, in North Karanpura area of Central Coalfields Limited(CCL). In the process, she became the first woman Mining Engineer to join CCL.
- The enormity of her achievement can be gauged by the fact that Akanksha is the second mining engineer in the Maharatna conglomerate Coal India Limited and the first woman to work in an underground coal mine.

- Deendayal Port Trust, consecutively second time, bagged the highest "Rajbhasha Kirti Award (Third prize in 'B' region)" for the year 2020-21.
- Award given for excellent performance in the field of Official Language Implementation amongst various Boards/Autonomous Bodies/Trusts/Societies etc. of Government of India.
Estimates of Gross Domestic Product for the First Quarter (April-June) of 2021-22
The National Statistical Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has released the estimates of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the first quarter (April-June) Q1 of 2021-22, both at Constant (2011-12) and Current Prices, along with the corresponding quarterly estimates of expenditure components of the GDP.
