Centre Revises "Transport and Marketing Assistance" (TMA) scheme for Specified Agriculture Products’
- In February 2019, the Department of Commerce had introduced ‘Transport and Marketing Assistance (TMA) for Specified Agriculture Products Scheme’ to provide assistance for the international component of freight, to mitigate disadvantage of higher freight costs faced by the Indian exporters of agriculture products.
- The scheme was initially applicable for exports effected during the period from 01.03.2019 to 31.03.2020 and was later extended for exports effected up to 31.03.2021.
- Now the Department has notified ‘Revised Transport and Marketing Assistance (TMA) for Specified Agriculture Products Scheme’ for exports effected on or after 01.04.2021 up to 31.03.2022
Following major changes have been made in the revised scheme:
- Dairy products, which were not covered under the earlier scheme, will be eligible for assistance under the revised scheme.
- Rates of assistance have been increased, by 50% for exports by sea and by 100% for exports by air.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) will shortly notify the procedure for availing assistance under the revised scheme.

- To mark the ongoing 4th Rashtriya Poshan Maah, the Department of Food and Public Distribution under Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Ministry of Women and Child Development jointly organized a webinar on ‘Rice Fortification: A complementary approach to address Nutritional Anaemia’ with technical support of the World Food Programme on Friday.
- Prime Minister in his address on the 75th Independence Day (15th August, 2021) made an announcement that fortified rice will be provided through all Government of India schemes by 2024.
About POSHAN Abhiyan
- A flagship programme of Government of India, POSHAN Abhiyan aims at improving nutritional outcome for children, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers.
- The programme was launched by Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi on March 8, 2018 on the occasion of International Women’s Day from Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan.
- The POSHAN (Prime Minister’s Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nutrition) Abhiyan directs the attention of the country towards the problem of malnutrition and address it in a mission-mode.
- Focusing on the aims of POSHAN Abhiyan, Mission Poshan 2.0 (SakshamAnganwadi and Poshan 2.0) has been announced in the Budget 2021-2022 as an integrated nutrition support programme, to strengthen nutritional content, delivery, outreach and outcomes with focus on developing practices that nurture health, wellness and immunity to disease and malnutrition.
Production of oil from Mustard Seeds increased from 91 LMT to 101 LMT this year
- Due to a gap between demand and supply, around 60% of the edible oils consumed in the country are met through imports.
- In this accord, palm oil constitutes around 54% of the total edible oil imported mainly from Indonesia and Malaysia, while Soyabean oil constitutes around 25% and is imported from Argentina and Brazil and Sunflower oil constitutes 19% and is imported mainly from Ukraine.
- In medium term contract production of edible oils is being given very high priority which is reflected in highest production of Mustard seeds from 91 LMT to 101 LMT this year.
- In case of Palm Oil (crude and refined), the imported quantity for August 2021 was 7.43 LMT as against 5.65 LMT in July, 2021.
Government cuts import duty on palm, soyabean and sunflower oils
- For the second time within a month, the Centre cut the import duty on edible oils — mainly palm group of oils, soyabean oil and sunflower oil — as part of its plans to control surging cooking oil prices and inflation
- Centre reduces the standard rate of duty on Crude Palm Oil, Crude Soyabean oil and Crude Sunflower Oil to 2.5%
- The duty cut came into effect from Saturday and will end on September 30, said a notification issued by the Finance Ministry

- Tractors & Farm Equipment Ltd (TAFE) has stated that its popular JFarm Services platform’s free tractor rental scheme has assisted thousands of small and marginal farmers in Tamil Nadu in continuing with their agricultural operations despite the impact of the second wave of the Covid pandemic
‘Gulabi’ campaign to combat pink bollworm by Syngenta launched
- Syngenta India, a subsidiary of Switzerland-based agricultural science and technology company Syngenta
- To combat the pink bollworm pest in the crop, the Swiss firm’s Indian arm has established a model cotton farm and launched a “Gulabi” campaign
- Based on the success of its project, the Maharashtra government has asked the firm to share its knowledge with administrative officials from other districts.
- Syngenta’s Inculcating Safety Awareness for Farmer Empowerment (I-SAFE) program has evolved into a safe spraying initiative in rural areas.
