Four Indian sites get Ramsar recognition
Thol and Wadhwana from Gujarat and Sultanpur and Bhindawas from Haryana have made the cut for Ramsar recognition. The number of Ramsar sites in India is now 46.
With this, the number of Ramsar sites in India are 46 and the surface area covered by these sites is now 1,083,322 hectares.
- The countries with the most Sites are the United Kingdom with 175 and Mexico with 142.
- Bolivia has the largest area under Ramsar protection.
- The world’s first Site was the Cobourg Peninsula in Australia, designated in 1974.
- It is named after the city of Ramsar in Iran where it was signed on 2nd of February 1971.
- Uttar Pradesh (8) has the most number of Ramsar Sites in India followed by Punjab (6) and Gujarat (4).

BRICS Partnership for Strengthening Agro Biodiversity for Food and Nutrition Security
The Ministers of Agriculture of the Federative Republic of Brazil, the Russian Federation, the People's Republic of China and the Republic of South Africa deliberated virtually on the theme “BRICS Partnership for Strengthening Agro Biodiversity for Food and Nutrition Security”.
- BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) Agriculture Research Platform has been developed by India to promote cooperation in the areas of agricultural research, extension, technology transfer, training and capacity building
- The Joint declaration of the eleventh meeting of BRICS and Action Plan for 2021-24 for agricultural cooperation of BRICS countries and BRICS Agriculture Research Platform were discussed in depth

- Capt Sachin R Sequeira is currently appointed as the Commanding Officer of INS Kochi. During the recent cyclonic storm Tauktae in the North Arabian Sea, INS Kochi, under his able leadership, undertook Search and Rescue Operations, in extremely challenging weather and sea conditions, resulting in saving over 125 lives from the stricken Barge P 305 at the Offshore Development Area (ODA).

About Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP)
Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) is an annual exercise carried out by Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR) in all Gram panchayats and other local self-governance bodies in all states and UTs from October to December months, where the GP development plans are prepared in a participatory manner under the people’s Plan Campaign.
Under Deendayal Antodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission’s (DAY-NRLM) Panchayati Raj Institutions-Community Based Organisations (PRI-CBO) convergence initiatives, all SHGs and their federations are expected to avail benefits of local economic development programmes led by the Gram Panchayats.
As per the joint advisory issued by Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) and Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR) in the past few years, all SHGs promote under the DAY-NRLM and their federations are mandated to prepare a Village Poverty Reduction Plans (VPRP) and present it in Gram Sabha for integration into Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP).
- DAY-NRLM, with over 70 million women organized into SHGs and federations, provides the right opportunity and platform to ensure community participation in the preparation of Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) through the comprehensive and inclusive preparation and integration of Village Poverty Reduction Plans (VPRP).
