PM  inaugurates and lays foundation stone of multiple projects in Somnath, Gujarat

The Somnath Promenade has been developed under PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive) Scheme at a total cost of over ₹ 47 crore.

About PRASHAD Scheme

  • The ‘National Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Augmentation Drive’ (PRASAD) has been launched by the Ministry of Tourism in the year 2014-15 with the objective of holistic development of identified pilgrimage and heritage destinations.
  • After discontinuation of HRIDAY scheme of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and for inclusion of projects for development of Heritage destinations in PRASAD Scheme, the scheme guidelines have been modified and the nomenclature of the scheme has also been changed from PRASAD to “National Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD)” in October 2017.
  • National Steering Committee headed by Minister of Tourism will be responsible for overall guidance, review and monitoring of the scheme.

NTPC commissions largest Floating Solar PV Project in the country

The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC ) Ltd,  has commissioned the largest floating solar PV project of 25MW on the reservoir of its Simhadri thermal station in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. 

This is also the first solar project to be set up under the Flexibilization Scheme, notified by the Government of India in 2018.

  • With a total installed capacity of 66900 MW, NTPC Group has 71 Power stations including 29 Renewable projects.
  • NTPC has set a target to install 60 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy (RE) capacity by 2032. 

India to Add 35 More Earthquake Observatories by End of This Year and 100 More by Year 2026: Dr. Jitendra Singh

He pointed out that in last six and a half decades since Independence, the country had only 115 Earthquake Observatories

The Minister expressed hope that the Joint Scientific Assembly of International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy (IAGA) - International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth’s Interior (IASPEI) will act as a catalyst in bringing on board a greater number of researchers and practitioners from global community to work on issues related to rendering science to society.

  • The IAGA and IASPEI have come together to hold a joint assembly in 2021, which is being hosted by the CSIR-NGRI with the support of Ministry of Earth Sciences, Govt. of India.

  • It is the world’s first and India’s indigenously developed DNA based vaccine for COVID-19 to be administered in humans including Children and adults 12 years and above.
  • Developed in partnership with the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India under the ‘Mission COVID Suraksha’ and implemented by BIRAC, ZyCoV-D

EPFO adds 12.83 lakh net subscribers in the month of June, 2021

  • The provisional payroll data of EPFO(Employees’ Provident Funds Organization) released on 20th August, 2021, highlights a growing trend with 12.83 lakh net payroll additions during the month of June, 2021.
  • Of the total 12.83 lakh net subscribers added during the month, around 8.11 lakh new members have come under the social security coverage of Employees’ Provident Funds Scheme for the first time

Export of agricultural and processed food products in April-June (2021-22)

India achieved a significant increase of 44.3 percent in export of agricultural and processed food products in the 2021-22 (April-June) in comparison to the corresponding period of 2020-21.

According to WTO’s trade map, with the total agri exports of USD 37 billion in the year 2019, India is ranked at 9th position in the world ranking.

  • In April-June, 2020-21, fresh fruits and vegetables were exported to the tune of USD 584.5 million which rose to USD 637.7 million in April-June 2021-22.
  • The export of other cereals increased from USD 44.9 million in April-June 2020 to USD 231.4 million in April-June 2021 and the export of meat, dairy and poultry products increased from USD 483.5 million in April-June 2020 to USD 1022.5 million in April-June 2021.
  • The export of rice, which recorded a positive growth of 25.3 percent, increased from USD 1914.5 million in April-June 2020 to USD 2398.5 million in April-June 2021.
  • The overall export of APEDA products increased from USD 3338.5 million in April-June 2020 to USD 4817.9 million in April-June 2021.

APEDA also organizes National events like AAHAR, Organic World Congress, BioFach India etc. to promote agri-exports.

1183 mobilization camps organized across the country under the DDU-GKY as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav

As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) celebrations, around 1183 ‘mobilisation camps’ were organized across the country under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) programme between 13th and 19th August, 2021

State Rural Livelihood Missions (SRLMs), State Skills Missions (SSM) came together with various Project Implementation Agencies (PIAs) to make the all-India event a grand success.

Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) 

  • DDU-GKY launched on the 25th September, 2014, is a nationwide placement-linked skill training program funded by the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India (GoI)
  • DDU-GKY is a part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), tasked with the dual objectives of adding diversity to the incomes of rural poor families and cater to the career aspirations of rural youth.
  • DDU-GKY is uniquely focused on rural youth between the ages of 15 and 35 years from poor families.
  • The programme has an outcome led design with guaranteed placements for at least 70% trained candidates With a minimum recommended monthly salary of INR 6,000/- (varying based on training acquired).
  • DDU-GKY is being Implemented in 27 States and 3 UTs.
